Studies on Plesiomonas shigelloides isolated from different environments
González-Rey, C., 2003. Studies on Plesiomonas shigelloides isolated from different environments. Doctor’s dissertation. ISSN 1401-6257, ISBN 91-576-6383-1. Plesiomonas shigelloides is an aquatic microorganism recognised recently as potential human and animal pathogen. Plesiomonads are Gram-negative, motile, non-sporeforming bacilli, facultative anaerobic and oxidase positive. Since 2001, P. sh...
متن کاملExpression of hemolytic activity by Plesiomonas shigelloides.
More than 90% of the Plesiomonas shigelloides strains that we tested produced a beta-hemolysin, as judged by the results of agar overlay and contact-dependent hemolysis assays. The hemolysin was cell associated, was active against the erythrocytes of various animal species, and was synthesized at both 25 and 35 degrees C. Activity was lost after thermal or proteolytic treatments or after preinc...
متن کاملEnrichment for Plesiomonas shigelloides from stools.
Bile peptone broth and alkaline peptone water (pH 8.5) were examined as enrichment media for the isolation of Plesiomonas shigelloides from stools, with salmonella-shigella agar as the isolation medium. After 423 parallel examinations in two different experiments, bile peptone broth enrichment for 24 h was observed to be six times more effective (P less than 0.01) than direct plating alone on s...
متن کاملFlagellation in Plesiomonas Shigelloides Strains
In total, 131 strains of Plesiomonas shigelloides isolated from various sources were tested for peritrichous flagella by a flagella staining method. When incubated on a solid medium for 18 hr at 25 C, peritrichous flagella were demonstrated in 89(68%) of them. With an electron microscope, the peritrichous flagella were clearly distinguished from the lophotrichous ones by their wavelength.
متن کاملPlesiomonas shigelloides in South Australia.
Plesiomonas shigelloides, a motile, oxidase-positive, Gram-negative rod that may possess shigella antigens, was isolated from the faeces of 36 children and two adults. In 13 children the organism was thought to be possibly the cause of enteritis and in eight children there was no evidence of intestinal disease. In nine children with gastroenteritis other enteropathogenic bacteria were found in ...
